Our treatment is effective for individuals with various problems including substance abuse/ mental health issues or both (i.e. co-occurring disorders). It also works well for relationship and communication issues.
Our Approach
Rational Treatment Services (RTS) uses a cognitive behavioral approach. Individuals work at their own pace to understand and change their thinking patterns, beliefs, and emotions. Such restructuring facilitates behavioral and emotional change. People learn to take effective control of their behavior and begin leading more fulfilling lives. Other techniques may also be utilized to enhance treatment including motivational counseling and techniques used in Rational Recovery.
We do not incorporate the 12-step program into our therapy. However our treatment can compliment support group attendance whether it be AA, NA, Smart Recovery or other support groups.
At Rational Treatment Services, we strive to be non-judgmental and to create a supportive and safe atmosphere. Our treatment is also strictly confidential.

We also help with relationships and communication to facilitate closer, more intimate and passionate experiences by helping each person take personal responsibility for their words thoughts and actions.
About Richard
Richard received his Master of Social Work (MSW) degree at the University of Washington . He has been a licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor and working in the substance abuse field for over twenty years. He has been working in mental health treatment for over ten years and is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW). He has received training in Reality Therapy, Motivational Interviewing and is a hypnotherapist. He has held positions such as CD Counselor and Program Manager, Psychiatric Social Worker, Advanced Mental Health Clinician and has been in private practice for over fifteen years.
His philosophy centers on individuals taking control of their lives and becoming empowered. Often, a person’s thinking and past beliefs get in their way. With effective skills and tools, they are able to focus on their goals and make progress in their lives; especially in the area of interpersonal relationships.
Location
Rational Treatment Services offices are in Seattle and Bellevue.
In Bellevue
We are located in the Bellefield Office Park. From either direction on I-405, take the SE 8th exit and head west. Take the second left onto 114th Ave SE, cross the bridge and continue to the stop sign. At stop sign, veer left and take the first right turn. Stay to the right to the Alderwood Building. Our address is 1601 114th Ave SE, Suite 160, Bellevue, WA 98004.
In Seattle
We are located on lower Queen Anne in the 1st Avenue West Building. The building is approximately one block North of Denny and one block West of Queen Anne Avenue at 200 1st Ave West, Suite 400, Seattle, WA 98119.
